When to choose a memorial forest for the scattering of ashes
Not everyone is looking for the same thing when the time comes to decide what to do with ashes. Traditional options, such as cemeteries, columbaria or private properties, remain fully valid, but the reality of many families has changed, and with it new needs have emerged that were not considered a few decades ago.
A memorial forest is not created to replace these alternatives, but to respond to very different situations. It makes sense for those who do not have a family grave or do not want the memory to remain linked to a cemetery. For those who have kept ashes at home for years because no decision seemed right. For those who do not want to scatter them because they need a physical place to return to, even if only once a year, with a personal memory, such as an engraved stone with the name of the deceased.
Bosque de la Eternidad also responds to an increasingly common reality, such as people without descendants, families spread across different countries or future generations who may not be able to take care of a place of remembrance. In these cases, the question is no longer where to place ashes, but how to ensure that this memory has a permanent, beautiful and human destination.
There are also less visible circumstances, such as people who inherit the ashes of a family member without knowing what their wishes were, people who live alone and have no descendants, or families who move home several times throughout their lives. These are situations in which traditional solutions do not always offer a simple answer. When we speak with professionals in the funeral sector, they tell us incredible stories, some of them very sad.
Finally, there is a small group of people who are not only looking for a place of remembrance, but who want their farewell to leave an environmental legacy. For them, a memorial forest represents the possibility that a death can give rise to a return to life in the form of a natural space that will continue growing for generations.
In short, a memorial forest does not aim to replace the existing traditional options, but rather to offer an answer where different circumstances mean that the usual alternatives are not fully satisfactory.
